Rockin' the Venue
The Venue is a big place, no make that, the
Venue is a very big place.
I was apprehensive about the Mr Riff gigs for the above reason, plus when
your 're opening for another band you know that a lot of the people there
aren't there specifically to see you. I needn't have worried though.
Yes I'll be honest, not everyone " got it " ( I
was opening for a pink floyd tribute band on Saturday and a rock
band on Tuesday. )
But a lot of people had a good time a boogied along with me.
The nice thing about a big stage is that you can really bounce about.
At one point I was running round so much I was sure I would meet myself
coming back.
The other good thing about big places is big dressing rooms, with a fridge!!!
I'm getting spoilt......
DC/AC
The HEAT. That's probably the memory that will stay with me the
longest from this gig.
Pack nearly 1500 people into a single place, let them bounce up and down
and then add a light show and you get HEAT. I thought I was done for as
I tried to carry Dockers ( the guitarist ) round the crowd. I live in
Britain, we don't do hot.
It was a funny feeling doing this gig, when we did the first gig in August
2004 we always hoped we would be able to do at least one other, just so
we could relax and enjoy it.
Which we did. In December 2004.
The charity gig we did after that in February 2005 raised a lot of money,
but I always felt that the gig in December to nearly 800 local folks was
the peak.
So why "one more time". Truth? The buzz. The status. The
chance to feel the way Bon must have felt singing the tunes. Just "one
more time". I can tell you, it can become very addictive.
Then of course there's the fact that when your asked to headline the Islands
biggest rock venue on the main night of the Islands biggest event!!
You just don't say no.
So, as I said, it was a funny feeling. The whole time we played I wanted
it to go on for ever because it was never going to happen again, but I
also wanted it to end so it could be a great memory of something we'd
done.
